1. Jhund 

Release Date: 2020

Director: Nagraj Manjule

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan

Marking Nagraj Manjule’s (of Sairat fame) directorial debut in Bollywood, Jhund is reportedly based on the life of the founder of Slum Soccer, Vijay Barse. In the film, Amitabh Bachchan plays a professor who motivates street children and initiates a football team. The film, which was initially scheduled for release in September 2019 has now been pushed to 2020. Jhund is slated for an OTT release in the latter half of the year.


2. Gulabo Sitabo

Release Date: February 28, 2020

Director: Shoojit Sircar

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Ayushmann Khurana

Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana, Gulabo Sitabo is a quirky family comedy-drama. Set in Lucknow, the film will see director-writer Shoojit Sircar-Juhi Chaturvedi collaborate once again after Vicky Donor, Piku and October.

3. Chehre

Release Date: 2020

Director: Rumi Jaffery

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Emraan Hashmi

Rumi Jaffrey’s mystery thriller will see Bachchan play a lawyer alongside Emraan Hashmi in the role of a business tycoon. The film also features Krystle D’Souza, Siddhanth Kapoor and Annu Kapoor.

4. Laxmi Bomb

Release: Hotstar

Director: Raghava Lawrence

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Ku-mar, Kiara Advani

A horror comedy starring Akshay Ku-mar and Kiara Advani in lead roles, Laxmi Bomb is a remake of Raghava Lawrence’s Tamil film Kanchana. Amitabh Bachchan, reportedly, plays a transgender in the film. Laxmi Bomb is slated for a Hotstar release.


5. Brahmastra

Release Date: Christmas 2020

Director: Ayan Mukerji

Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan

Ayan Mukerji’s fantasy trilogy has whipped up much buzz over the last one year. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan, the film has been delayed for several reasons but will hopefully see light of the day in the early part of next year. The first film in the trilogy will include a cameo from Shah Rukh Khan. The second film in the trilogy will reportedly feature another male lead, who supposedly plays Ranbir Kapoor’s father in the film.


6. Gumnaam

Release Date: 2020

Director: E Niwas

Shool director E Niwas is at the helm of this mystery drama which is NOT a remake of the 1965 classic suspense thriller Gumnaam, starring Manoj Ku-mar and Nanda.

And finally! Amitabh Bachchan is all set to make his debut in Tamil cinema with T Tamilvanan’s Uyarntha Manithan. The bilingual film written by Javar Seetharaman also features SJ Suryah and Ramya Krishnan.

8. Ponniyin Selvan 

Release Date: 2022

Director: Mani Ratnam

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Nayanthara, Anushka Shetty

The last, but certainly not the least, is the Tamil period drama that will, reportedly, see Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan share screen space. The ensemble cast also includes Nayanthara, Karthi, Amala Paul, Anushka Shetty, Jayaram and Keerthi Suresh and Ashutosh Rana. The narrative traces back to the Chola Dynasty and will be shot in Madhya Pradesh.
