Interior Cafe Night review

When love gives you a second chance…! But there’s so much more that plays out in this 12-minute film — the situations we happen to be in, the choices we make, the consequence of those choices — when a cafe owner and his long lost love bump into each other one night. Interior Cafe Night stars veteran Naseeruddin Shah, Shernaz Patel, Shweta Basu Prasad (who I remember as a child artist from TV and later, films like Maqdee and Iqbal) and Naveen Kasturia (of TVF Pitchers and Sulemani Keeda fame).

It’s a story of unfulfilled love, which I thought was well narrated and brilliantly acted. A friend (who is quite a writer himself), although, had a contrasting viewpoint. He thought the plot as well as the storytelling were as clichéd and predictable as it gets. “It’s been done a hundred times. The film is only popular because of Naseeruddin Shah in it.” (The film trended on social media on Naseeruddin Shah’s birthday, the day it released).

I, on the other hand, quite liked how it played out. One story. Two different times. The atmospherics. The performances. Each one of them completely belongs in their parts.

They may not meet the same fate but at the end all love stories seam into the same thread. The idea of love never gets boring or insipid for me.
