Jerry & Marge Go Large (2022) Review

Emmy Award Winner Bryan Cranston (Jerry) stars opposite Oscar nominee Annette Bening (Marge) in this true story of professional lottery players. Married couple Jerry and Marge Selbee live in Evart, Michigan. After 42 years of working as a production line manager, Jerry is suddenly out of work. Life changes dramatically when he’s suddenly laid off from his job as an accountant at a factory where he had worked for decades. His days of keeping a regular, meaningful routine, upon retirement, are over, leaving him empty and aimless.

Despite Marge’s encouragement and his adult children’s prodding to try something new, he refuses to do anything about his situation until one day he chances upon a legal loophole in the lottery system with the help of his wife. Disillusioned as he is with life, Jerry tried to find a way to beat the system and win the state lottery. A loophole that allows him to consistently win the WinFall lottery in Michigan and, eventually, Massachusetts.

Jerry clues their local neighborhood friends into the secret. The couple eventually make millions. Jerry and Marge decide to use the prize money to revive and rebuild their small town and its people who have fallen into financial ruin.

Bryan Cranston and Annette Bening liven up this charming, retirement-to-riches story directed by David Frankel’s (The Devil Wears Prada, Marley & Me). Based on a true story, it’s wonderfully supported by Rainn Wilson, Anna Camp and Larry Wilmore. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last month and is now available for streaming on Paramount+. Gil Netter and Levantine Films produced the film. Kevin Halloran is the executive producer. Amy Baer co-produced it under MRC Film’s Landline Pictures. Jerry & Marge Go Large is based on an article written by Jason Fagone for The Huffington Post.
